BMW's upcoming all-electric iX4 has been spotted testing at the Nürburgring, revealing a coupe-like SUV design as part of the automaker's Neue Klasse lineup. The 2027 iX4 aims to replace the current X4 and will offer two all-wheel-drive trims: 40 xDrive and 50 xDrive. This new model is expected to debut later this year or early 2027.
The iX4 joins the iX3 and i3 as part of BMW's ambitious electric vehicle expansion under the Neue Klasse platform. This new generation features sixth-generation eDrive technology, 800V architecture, and enhanced battery systems. The iX4 will share underpinnings with the iX3, which uses a 108.7 kWh battery (112.2 kWh in US) offering up to 500 miles WLTP range.
The iX3 50 xDrive delivers 463 hp and 676 lb-ft torque, with 400 kW DC fast charging enabling a 10-80% recharge in about 21 minutes. For the iX4, BMW expects a WLTP range exceeding 500 miles in its longest-range variant, with an EPA-estimated range of at least 400 miles. The iX3 currently starts at $61,500 in the US, and the iX4 will likely be priced slightly higher.
The iX4's slanted roofline provides a sportier alternative to the iX3, targeting buyers seeking a coupe-SUV EV. Its 800V architecture ensures rapid charging, and BMW's real-world range tests—where the iX3 drove over 1,000 km on a single charge—demonstrate the platform's efficiency. This positions the iX4 as a strong competitor in the luxury electric SUV segment.
Spy images from Wilcoblok show BMW's signature four-eyed kidney grille and sleek profile, though the vehicle remains camouflaged. The interior is expected to mirror the iX3's setup, including a 17.9-inch central touchscreen and Panoramic Vision 3D Head-Up Display. Official details on pricing and full specifications will be revealed closer to launch.
The 2027 iX4 is slated for production by the end of 2026 or early 2027, with deliveries to US dealerships following the debut. As BMW accelerates its EV transition, the iX4, alongside the iX3 and i3, will form a core part of its electric portfolio. More updates are expected as the launch date approaches.
