Bitmine Immersion Technologies generated $45.7 million in revenue from Ethereum staking and validation last quarter, marking a dramatic shift from its Bitcoin mining roots. The company’s pivot gained momentum following the March launch of MAVAN, an institutional-grade Ethereum staking platform that operates validator infrastructure for its own holdings and external clients. This strategic move has reshaped Bitmine’s revenue mix, with staking now dominating its income stream.
For the three months ended May 31, staking revenue accounted for 98% of total revenue, far outpacing the $624,000 from self-mining Bitcoin and the $168,000 from consulting services. A year earlier, Bitmine recorded just $2 million in total revenue, primarily from machine leasing. The latest 10-Q filing reveals that Bitmine has staked 85% of its ETH holdings, or about 4.9 million Ether, making it one of the largest staking entities globally.
Bitmine’s Chairman Tom Lee emphasized the company’s scale, projecting annualized ETH staking rewards of $284 million once its holdings are fully staked. The MAVAN platform, short for “Made in America VAlidator Network,” was originally developed to support Bitmine’s own treasury but has expanded to serve institutional investors and custodians. This growth follows the acquisition of Australia-based non-custodial validator operator Pier Two Holdings.
The shift to Ethereum has significant implications for Bitmine’s future. By focusing on staking, the company capitalizes on Ethereum’s transition to proof-of-stake and its growing role in decentralized finance. The success of Robinhood Chain, which uses ETH as its native gas token, further illustrates Ethereum’s expanding utility. Lee called Robinhood Chain a “breakaway success,” noting its dollar volumes exceeded $1 billion since its July 1 launch.
Industry observers see Bitmine’s pivot as a bellwether for other Bitcoin miners seeking stable revenue streams. With 27 million Robinhood users transacting in ETH, Lee observed that everyday users are starting to view Ether as money. This perception could drive further institutional adoption and demand for staking services.
Looking ahead, Bitmine aims to fully stake its ETH holdings and expand its validator operations. The company’s non-custodial approach and partnership with staking providers position it to capture a larger share of the staking market. As Ethereum’s ecosystem matures, Bitmine’s revenue from staking is expected to grow, solidifying its status as a key player in the crypto infrastructure space.
