DJI has launched the Lito 1, an entry-level drone that brings advanced obstacle avoidance to the sub-250-gram category at a competitive price point. The Lito 1 replaces the older Mini series and offers features typically found on more expensive models, making it an attractive option for beginner pilots seeking professional-grade functionality without breaking the bank.
Part of the new Lito series, the Lito 1 is designed to be regulator-friendly at just 249 grams, allowing for less restrictive flying in many regions. It joins the lineup alongside a higher-end model, but this entry-level variant aims to democratize safety features that have long been reserved for premium drones.
The Lito 1 boasts a 48-megapixel 1/2-inch CMOS sensor capable of capturing 4K video at 100 frames per second. Its battery offers up to 36 minutes of flight time, while the video transmission range reaches 9.3 miles under ideal conditions. The drone includes intelligent flight modes such as ActiveTrack, QuickShots, and Hyperlapse, all supported by 5-lux omnidirectional obstacle sensing—a first for a beginner drone.
Omnidirectional obstacle sensing is a game-changer for novice pilots, providing 360-degree collision avoidance that builds confidence during flight. However, the review notes that while this system is highly effective, it should not replace careful piloting. The Lito 1 lacks LiDAR and does not support log footage, which may disappoint advanced users seeking maximum editing flexibility.
Despite its small sensor, the Lito 1 delivers impressive image quality straight out of the camera, with video captured only in a normal profile ideal for beginners. The review praises its competitive pricing, obstacle avoidance, and decent image quality, while flagging the small sensor and lack of log footage as drawbacks. The design features a compact folding chassis and the DJI RC-N3 controller, which attaches a smartphone for the camera view.
In practice, the claimed 36-minute battery life falls short, with real-world flight times coming in lower. Nevertheless, the Lito 1 represents a significant step forward in making advanced drone technology accessible. As the drone market continues to heat up, the Lito series fills a crucial gap between basic toys and professional rigs, offering a safe entry point for enthusiasts.
