Michael Saylor's Strategy has added a new metric to its public dashboard: bitcoin's 200-week moving average. The firm, which holds roughly 843,775 bitcoin, announced the move on Sunday via Saylor's X account. This long-term trend line has historically served as a critical support level during bear markets.

The 200-week moving average smooths out short-term volatility and offers a macro view of bitcoin's price trajectory. According to Saylor, bitcoin has traded above this level 92% of the time since the average became available. Its current proximity to the line therefore carries outsized significance for traders and long-term holders.

As of Monday, bitcoin was trading near $63,000, slightly below the 200-week simple moving average at $63,770, according to CoinDesk data. The price dip comes amid concerns over a delay in the U.S. Senate's consideration of the Clarity Act, a bill expected to unlock institutional demand. The Senate did not list the act on Monday's agenda, triggering fresh selling pressure.

Strategy's decision to track this indicator publicly could reinforce its self-fulfilling nature. Moving averages often act as support or resistance because large numbers of traders watch them. When a prominent corporate holder like Strategy highlights a level, more participants may align their orders around it, strengthening its importance.

Saylor said on Sunday: "We're now tracking Bitcoin's 200-week moving average and its premium to that level. Today, it sits almost exactly on the line." Kraken's analysts added a bullish historical note: buying bitcoin at a discount to the 200-week average has produced median returns of 113% over 12 months and 313% over two years.

Whether that pattern holds in the current cycle is uncertain, especially with regulatory headwinds. The Clarity Act's fate could be pivotal for bitcoin's short-term direction. If prices remain below the 200-week average, attention will focus on whether this historic support level triggers demand or gives way.
