Google is preparing to host its next Made by Google hardware launch event on August 12th, with comedian Trevor Noah as the host. The company revealed the news in a new teaser video, confirming a high-profile presenter for its upcoming Pixel 11 showcase. This marks the second consecutive year Google has chosen a late-night host for its event.
The event will take place in New York City and begins at 6PM ET, right at the end of the typical workday. In addition to Noah, several celebrities and influencers will appear, including Call Her Daddy host Alex Cooper, Indian cricketer Shubman Gill, Japanese actress Ayami Nakajo, and NBA star Stephen Curry. Both Cooper and Noah are also bringing their own shows to YouTube, suggesting a cross-platform promotional strategy.
Last year’s event was hosted by Jimmy Fallon, and The Verge’s Victoria Song described it as less of a traditional tech launch and more like “a live taping of The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.” With another celebrity-heavy lineup, Google is clearly aiming to reach a mainstream audience rather than just tech enthusiasts. The choice of an evening time slot further reinforces that entertainment-focused approach.
As for the gadgets, the teaser video shows brief glimpses of a new phone and smartwatch. Google has previously teased the Pixel 11 Pro and Pixel 11 Pro Fold, and numerous leaked images and specifications are already circulating online. However, consumers should be prepared for higher price tags on the upcoming hardware, according to reports.
The event’s mix of tech and pop culture could help Google build momentum for its Pixel line. By featuring celebrities with large followings, the company hopes to generate buzz beyond its usual audience. The inclusion of global stars like Gill and Nakajo also signals an international push.
Looking ahead, the August 12 event will be a crucial test of Google’s ability to blend hardware announcements with entertainment. If the leaks are accurate, the Pixel 11 family will bring meaningful upgrades but at a higher cost. Whether that trade-off appeals to consumers remains to be seen.
