The 2027 Chevrolet Equinox EV and 2027 Kia EV3 are competing for the title of America's most affordable electric vehicle with over 315 miles of range. The Chevy starts at $34,995, while the Kia's base model is $29,890, though that version only offers 221 miles. The real contest begins with Kia's Wind trim, which matches the range requirement.

GM's marketing still bills the Equinox EV as the most affordable 315+ mile EV, but the fine print limits that claim to the 2026 model year. For 2027, the Equinox EV carries over with one major change: a native NACS port replacing CCS. This allows Tesla Supercharger access without an adapter, aligning GM with the industry standard.

The 2027 Equinox EV LT1 FWD delivers 319 miles of EPA range at $34,995. The Kia EV3 Wind FWD offers 321 miles starting at $34,990. Including destination fees, the Equinox costs $36,795, while the EV3 Wind comes to $36,485, making Kia $310 cheaper with two extra miles.

The two EVs differ in size and tech. The EV3 is smaller, at 169.3 inches long versus 190.6 for the Equinox, and offers up to 56.5 cubic feet of cargo space. Chevrolet counters with a 17.7-inch central touchscreen, the largest in its class, and 57.2 cubic feet of maximum cargo space.

This pricing battle has significant implications for the EV market. Kia's aggressive pricing undercuts a key Chevrolet advantage, intensifying competition in the affordable long-range segment. For consumers, this means more value and better technology at lower prices.

Owner reactions are mixed. A top comment from user oldgeek points out that for all-wheel-drive versions, the Equinox wins on both price and range. That suggests the value depends on configuration, with Kia leading in front-wheel-drive models.

Both vehicles are now on sale for the 2027 model year. As GM and Kia refine their electric offerings, the competition will likely push further improvements. Buyers ultimately must weigh space, screen size, and drivetrain preferences when choosing.
