Third-party organization Signal65 today released a test report on Platform X, pointing out that under battery power and balanced mode, laptops with Qualcomm Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme chip significantly outperform Intel Core Ultra X9 388H and AMD Ryzen AI 9 465 processors. This result has sparked new attention in the industry regarding the landscape of the mobile computing market.

Qualcomm has been continuously advancing its PC chip strategy in recent years, and the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme is its latest flagship product. The chip features 18 CPU cores (12 Oryon Prime cores + 6 Oryon Performance cores) with a maximum frequency of 5.0GHz, equipped with Adreno X2-90 GPU, Hexagon NPU with 80 TOPS computing power, and 48GB LPDDR5X memory. In comparison, the Intel Core Ultra X9 388H has 16 cores (4P+8E+4LPE) with a maximum of 5.1GHz, Arc B390 GPU, and 50 TOPS NPU; the AMD Ryzen AI 9 465 uses 10 cores (4 Zen 5 + 6 Zen 5c) with a maximum of 5.0GHz, Radeon 880M GPU, and 50 TOPS NPU.

Test data shows that in the GeekBench 7.0 multi-core test, the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme is 53% faster than the Intel Core Ultra X9 388H and 83% faster than the AMD Ryzen AI 9 465. In the Cinebench 2026 multi-threaded rendering test, the Snapdragon chip is 87% faster than both. In the Procyon AI computer vision test, its performance is approximately 2 times that of the Intel Core Ultra X9 388H and 2.4 times that of the AMD Ryzen AI 9 465. It is worth noting that these results were achieved under battery power and balanced mode, while in the comparative tests, the Intel chip used an external power source and switched to performance mode.

This result highlights Qualcomm's advantages in energy efficiency and AI computing power. The integrated Qualcomm Hexagon NPU in the Snapdragon chip delivers 80 TOPS of performance, far higher than the competitors' 50 TOPS, which could become a key competitive factor in the AI PC era. Analysts point out that Qualcomm achieves higher performance with lower power consumption, which is expected to change the long-standing dominance of the x86 architecture in the laptop market.

For Intel and AMD, the strong performance of the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme poses a direct threat. In particular, Intel faces dual challenges in architecture and manufacturing process on the mobile side, while AMD's Zen 5 architecture is also clearly surpassed in energy efficiency. In the future, PC manufacturers may increase their product lines based on Qualcomm's platform, promoting the adoption of ARM architecture in laptops.

Looking ahead, as more devices featuring the Snapdragon X2 Elite Extreme hit the market, the AI PC market will see even fiercer competition. Qualcomm has announced cooperation with multiple OEMs, and it is expected that more laptops equipped with this chip will be released in 2025. This trend may prompt Intel and AMD to accelerate their iteration speed and drive the entire industry toward higher energy efficiency and stronger AI performance.
