Poco, a sub-brand under Xiaomi, officially launched its new mid-range 5G smartphone, the Poco M8x, in the Indian market on August 21. The device features a large battery and an affordable price as its main selling points, with a starting price of 18,999 rupees (approximately 1,336 yuan). It aims to provide a long-lasting 5G experience for budget-conscious consumers. This is another practicality-focused product from Poco targeting emerging markets like India.
According to official information from Xiaomi, the Poco M8x is equipped with a 6.9-inch IPS LCD screen with HD+ resolution, a peak brightness of 825 nits, and support for a 120Hz high refresh rate. The screen is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass 7i for enhanced durability. The phone's core configuration includes the Qualcomm Snapdragon 4 Gen 5 processor, paired with LPDDR4X memory and UFS 2.2 storage, starting with a 4GB RAM and 128GB storage configuration.
In terms of battery life and charging, the phone houses a massive 7900mAh battery, officially supporting 45W wired fast charging and 22.5W wired reverse charging to power other devices. For imaging, the Poco M8x features a 5000-megapixel main camera with a 1/2.8-inch sensor on the rear and an 8-megapixel front camera, meeting everyday photography needs. The phone comes pre-installed with the HyperOS 3 operating system, deeply customized based on Android 16.
Poco has made a clear commitment regarding software updates, stating that it will provide up to 4 years of operating system version updates and 6 years of security patch updates for the Poco M8x. This commitment is notable for a mid-range model and is expected to extend the phone's software lifecycle, enhancing long-term user value. This is a positive signal for users who prioritize system security and feature iterations.
In terms of design and additional features, the Poco M8x measures 8.8mm in thickness and weighs 232g, offering IP64-rated dust and water resistance. The phone also integrates an infrared remote control, a side-mounted fingerprint sensor, dual speakers, and retains a 3.5mm headphone jack, aiming for comprehensive functionality. Besides the 4+128GB starting version, the 6GB+128GB version is priced at 22,999 rupees (approximately 1,617 yuan).
Overall, the Xiaomi Poco M8x 5G phone, with its ultra-large battery, relatively affordable price, and comprehensive hardware configuration, directly targets user groups in markets like India who have a strong demand for long battery life and 5G connectivity. The product's launch further enriches Poco's lineup in the mid-range 5G market and is expected to compete with numerous products in the same price range.
Looking ahead, this move solidifies Poco's product line coverage in emerging markets. Leveraging Xiaomi's supply chain advantages and value-for-money strategy, the Poco M8x is poised to achieve good sales in markets like India. Its long-term software update commitment may also become a key factor influencing consumer purchasing decisions, pushing phones in this price segment to align with higher standards in service support.
