Revolut has launched its first-ever stablecoin, a euro-pegged digital token named EURR, marking a significant step in its crypto strategy. The rollout, announced in late August 2026, initially targets selected customers in Denmark, Poland, and Portugal. This move comes as Revolut phases out support for Tether's USDT in the European Economic Area and Switzerland, with remaining balances set to be converted after August 31.
The EURR token is issued by Bridge Building S.A., a Luxembourg-based entity of Stripe-owned stablecoin infrastructure firm Bridge. It is fully compliant with the European Union's Markets in Crypto-Assets regulation, known as MiCA. The token is designed to maintain a stable value of one euro, backed by reserves held and managed by Bridge in accordance with MiCA rules.
For the initial launch, EURR will be available on the Ethereum blockchain. Revolut plans to expand support to multiple blockchain networks and enable transfers to external wallets as liquidity builds. Fiat transactions using EURR will incur no fees or spreads, adhering to Revolut's standard crypto trading and remittance limits.
The phased rollout will first serve approximately 2 million Revolut customers in the three selected markets. The company chose these countries based on their market size and readiness. Wider availability across other EEA nations is expected later in 2026, pending regulatory and operational readiness.
This launch aligns with Revolut's broader strategy to develop its own stablecoin offerings. The company confirmed it is developing tokens denominated in other currencies through separate regulatory pathways, though specific currencies were not disclosed. Revolut Digital Assets Europe is the entity offering the EURR token.
Industry observers note this positions Revolut as a major player in the regulated stablecoin market within Europe. The move allows the company to offer a MiCA-compliant alternative to USDT, which it is withdrawing from the region. It follows Revolut's recent in-principle approval from UAE authorities for crypto services, signaling aggressive global expansion.
Looking ahead, Revolut's stablecoin initiative could reshape how users interact with digital payments and cross-border remittances on its platform. The successful execution of the EURR rollout will likely influence the development and regulatory approval process for its future currency-pegged tokens. The company is poised to become a significant issuer in the evolving European digital currency landscape.
