Xiaomi recently announced that its upcoming Xiaomi 18 Fold flagship foldable phone will be the first in the world to feature CXMT's new-generation LPDDR6 memory, a piece of news that has quickly garnered industry attention. At the same time, CCTV Finance reported that this marks two good news items for China's semiconductor industry, signifying a significant progress from single-point technological breakthroughs to coordinated efforts across the industrial chain. The Xiaomi 18 Fold is expected to make its official debut in September, at which time it will integrate both the self-developed Xuanjie O3 processor and domestically produced LPDDR6 memory, showcasing the ambition of Chinese tech companies to integrate core components into high-end products.

CXMT officially announced the mass production of its new-generation LPDDR6 memory on August 29 and chose to partner with Xiaomi for its global debut. The company noted in its 2026 semi-annual report that the LPDDR6 chip, through architectural innovation and data transmission optimization, achieves significant performance improvements over the previous generation LPDDR5X, with a peak rate of up to 12800Mbps and a maximum capacity support of 16GB. Currently, this product has been sent to key customers for verification and is accelerating the process of large-scale mass production.

Xiaomi Group launched its first AI flagship SoC, the Xuanjie O3 processor, on August 24, which is the industry's first to support the LPDDR6 memory standard. Subsequently, on August 28, CXMT Technology Co., Ltd. opened its official Weibo account, with its first follow being Xiaomi Mobile, highlighting the close relationship between the two companies in terms of technology collaboration. This series of actions indicates that Xiaomi is synchronizing its self-developed mobile processor with domestic storage technology into flagship mass-produced models through open cooperation.

CCTV Finance's report emphasized that from "chips" to "storage," China's semiconductor industry is transitioning from single-point breakthroughs to coordinated efforts across the industrial chain. By allowing domestic core components to undergo market testing in high-standard flagship phones and completing rigorous validation through mass-produced products, Xiaomi aims to guide the acceleration of domestic technology's scaled application. This model provides a new sample for collaborative breakthroughs in China's semiconductor industry and helps enhance overall industrial competitiveness.

For consumers, the Xiaomi 18 Fold equipped with LPDDR6 memory and the Xuanjie O3 processor is expected to deliver faster operating speeds and better energy efficiency, enhancing the high-end experience of foldable phones. CXMT's LPDDR6 technological breakthrough is anticipated to reduce Chinese phone manufacturers' reliance on foreign memory chips and promote the localization of the supply chain.

Industry analysis suggests that the collaboration between Xiaomi and CXMT is not only a case of technological integration but also a microcosm of the coordinated development of China's semiconductor ecosystem. As more domestic core technologies are applied to high-end products, it is expected to accelerate the pace of domestic substitution in the future and occupy a more favorable position in the global market. This progress also provides a model for collaboration for other Chinese tech companies, inspiring more manufacturers to participate in building the domestic supply chain.

Looking ahead, the release of the Xiaomi 18 Fold will serve as a crucial checkpoint for testing the commercialization results of domestic semiconductor technology. If market feedback is positive, it may drive more terminal manufacturers to adopt domestic chip and storage solutions, thereby promoting the maturity and innovation of the entire industrial chain. The collaborative breakthroughs in China's semiconductor industry in storage and processor fields inject new variables into global technological competition.
