Hong Kong-listed company Paradigm Intelligence has recently reached a compute procurement deal with Huawei valued at over 1 billion yuan, planning to purchase a large quantity of Huawei Ascend 950 chips to support the deployment of artificial intelligence large models in key industries such as finance and manufacturing. This move marks a significant step forward in the application of domestic compute power in the high-end AI field.
Dai Wenyuan, founder and CEO of Paradigm Intelligence, and Yang Chaobin, Huawei's executive director, along with other senior executives, recently held a strategic meeting to engage in in-depth discussions about this compute collaboration. This follows the company's previous major investment in the compute sector in April of this year, when Paradigm planned to purchase GPU servers for 400 million yuan.
Public information indicates that Paradigm Intelligence is currently in a clear cycle of compute expansion. In the first half of this year, the company's capital expenditure reached as high as 2.237 billion yuan, strategically ramping up compute reserves, with the available compute scale at the end of the period reaching 28,000 PFLOPS. This collaboration with Huawei can be seen as a continuation of this expansion trajectory.
Industry analysts point out that there is still uncertainty in the supply of international high-end chips, while domestic compute power represented by the Ascend 950 is rapidly catching up in terms of availability and cost-effectiveness. Paradigm's large-scale investment at this time not only allows it to seize the initiative in replacing domestic compute power but also minimizes future switching costs and delivery gaps.
Financial report data shows that Paradigm Intelligence's business growth provides solid support for its compute expansion. In the first half of this year, the company's API revenue reached 464 million yuan, surging by 860.8% year-on-year; token call volume increased by approximately 620%, and the total value of orders in hand reached about 7 billion yuan.
Regarding the use of the new compute resources, insiders revealed that these resources will primarily be used to support project deliveries from the company's orders in hand and AI product development. This reflects the company's strategic approach of closely integrating compute reserves with business growth.
This collaboration also highlights a new trend in the domestic technology industry's compute supply chain. In response to changes in the external environment, more and more Chinese companies are turning to domestic solutions to ensure business continuity and technological autonomy.
Looking ahead, as AI large models penetrate various industries, compute demand will continue to grow. This collaboration between Paradigm Intelligence and Huawei not only brings business opportunities to both parties but also provides an important practical case for the independent development of China's AI industry.
