Dynamic Creatures, a Boston-based startup, has officially launched from stealth mode with the mission of developing interactive mobile robots for the entertainment and hospitality industries. The company has secured backing from a consortium of investors, including Eniac Ventures, Kindred Ventures, Heliad, Sunshine Lake, and BlueGrass Ventures, alongside prominent angel investors Marc Raibert, the founder of Boston Dynamics, and Lukas Ziegler. The exact amount of funding raised was not disclosed.
Positioned as Boston Dynamics' official partner for entertainment and hospitality, Dynamic Creatures aims to bridge a significant gap in the robotics market. The company is creating character-driven experiences that navigate guest environments, interpret contextual cues, and engage with individuals in real time. This approach differs from both stationary animatronics, which perform fixed sequences, and conventional service robots designed for specific tasks like guidance or delivery.
The venture was co-founded by CEO Marc Theermann and CTO Farbod Farshidian. Theermann brings experience as a former chief strategy officer at Boston Dynamics and a Google executive. Farshidian was previously a research leader at the Robotics and AI Institute, where his work included humanoid control for the Atlas robot and transferring simulated skills to physical machines.
Central to their offering is the SnowJay platform, described as an AI and robotics operating system. SnowJay integrates robotics, learning-based control, real-time perception, and behavioral programming with character design. The platform is engineered to ensure fluid movement and adaptive intelligence, allowing characters to understand their surroundings and respond appropriately to each person and situation.
Dynamic Creatures is already engaged with a large theme park and retailer on guest-facing systems. The company states that characters built on existing robotic platforms can be deployed within months and offers leasing models. It is also capable of developing fully original, custom robots tailored to specific brand stories and environments.
The initial target market encompasses theme parks, hotels, resorts, casinos, museums, cruise ships, and live venues. Future applications are anticipated to expand into luxury retail and automotive brand experience centers. The company's vision is to create "small moments of wonder" that guests will remember, moving beyond crowd performance to personalized interaction.
