Meta’s new AI agent Muse has climbed to the No. 2 spot on the U.S. App Store, according to fresh data from Sensor Tower. The app, which launched Tuesday, has been downloaded more than 83,000 times on iOS in the United States. It is currently limited to the U.S. market. The early figures offer the first concrete look at how consumers are responding to Meta’s big bet on agentic AI.

Muse’s debut is notably slower than Meta’s previous app launches. Threads, for comparison, was downloaded over 4.3 million times in the U.S. on its launch day. The Meta AI app saw 108,000 U.S. downloads during its debut. Even ChatGPT, which launched in a single market, surpassed half a million U.S. installs in less than a week.

That means ChatGPT averaged roughly 83,300 daily downloads at its launch, a number Muse took twice as long to reach. Still, analysts say the launch is not necessarily going poorly. Muse has moved up from fourth place on Wednesday to second place today, showing continued momentum on iOS.

Its Android performance is weaker, however. Muse currently ranks only No. 338 in the Productivity category on Google Play, and Android download numbers are not yet available. The app is also accessible via the web and through WhatsApp, which are not included in these estimates.

Muse represents one of Meta’s largest bets to date. The company believes that AI agents capable of completing tasks on behalf of users will define the future of consumer AI. Meta is positioning this shift as comparable in significance to its rebranding from Facebook to chase the metaverse.

Meta faces intense competition in this space. Google has Gemini Spark, while Anthropic offers Claude Cowork. Another rival, Instinct, works over text messages and was recently valued at $2.5 billion, drawing praise from Silicon Valley insiders despite security and privacy concerns.

Muse’s early numbers are worth watching as the agentic AI race accelerates. The app’s ability to sustain its chart position will signal whether Meta can translate its massive distribution advantages into lasting consumer adoption. For now, the battle for everyday AI agents is just beginning.
