Cloudflare has introduced automatic remediation policies for Cloudflare CASB, enabling security teams to design event-driven logic that revokes risky file shares and dispatches custom webhooks without manual intervention. The feature aims to close the gap between detecting SaaS misconfigurations and resolving them, which has historically been measured in hours or days. With this update, Cloudflare CASB evolves from a passive detection tool into a proactive, automated security engine built into Cloudflare One.
Cloudflare CASB, a cloud access security broker, was originally designed to give security teams full visibility into the posture of their SaaS applications through quick, clientless integration. The platform continuously surfaces risks such as overshared files, dormant admin keys and tokens, and OAuth applications with excessive permissions across an entire organization. However, for years, SaaS Security Posture Management tools like CASB functioned primarily as alarm systems that identified problems without helping administrators fix them. This placed the burden on security teams to manage an ever-growing backlog of findings.
The urgency of automated remediation becomes clear when considering scale: a single misconfigured file-sharing policy across a Google Workspace tenant can generate thousands of findings within seconds. Even disciplined teams face a remediation window of hours or days, which is more than enough time for a sensitive file to be downloaded, forwarded, or indexed by unauthorized parties. By automating responses the moment a finding is detected, CASB policies aim to keep that backlog clean and significantly reduce exposure risk.
CASB policies function as a native automation engine inside Cloudflare One, allowing security teams to define response logic once and let the system handle matches automatically. Actions can include revoking access to a file share, dispatching a webhook to a security operations center, or forwarding events to a security orchestration, automation, and response platform. For example, if an organization prohibits public file sharing except for specific marketing groups, CASB can automatically revoke unauthorized public shares within minutes rather than queuing them for manual review. This eliminates the need for administrators to act on each individual finding.
The feature builds on manual remediation actions that Cloudflare launched earlier this year, which allowed teams to resolve misconfigurations directly from the Cloudflare dashboard. While that update removed the need to log into multiple SaaS portals, it still required a human to confirm and initiate each remediation. Automatic remediation policies now shift the model from reactive to proactive, handling known finding types without human confirmation. Organizations can also rely on their own internal automation services and communication channels rather than taking action across disparate platforms.
Architecturally, CASB policies are built entirely on the Cloudflare developer platform — the same platform available to every Cloudflare customer. When a finding is detected, the findings engine enqueues an orchestration message to trigger the configured policy action. This approach demonstrates how Cloudflare leverages its own infrastructure to deliver security automation at scale. The rollout signals a broader industry shift toward self-healing security postures across cloud environments.
