OpenAI released two new models, GPT-6 Sol and GPT-6 Luna, on September 22, bringing down some of GPT-6 Astra's advances in professional work, factual accuracy, programming, and computer use into faster, lower-priced versions. Compared to GPT-5.6's promotional pricing, the API prices for both new models have been reduced by 50%. Sol's input and output prices are $2 and $10 per million tokens respectively, while Luna's are $0.1 and $0.5. OpenAI's internal testing shows that Sol's factual error rate is approximately half that of its predecessor.

On the same day, Anthropic released Claude Opus 5.5, the first model in the Claude 5.5 family. The company claims it reaches the level of Claude Fable 5.1 in most tasks, costs 40% less than Opus 5 to handle typical workloads under standard settings, and produces output more than 30% faster. The model's input and output prices are $4 and $20 per million tokens respectively. Before launch, it underwent evaluations by external organizations such as Frontier Design and METR.

In an interview with the Canal+ program, Apple CEO Ternus stated that Siri AI was not designed to be your friend. He believes Apple does not want AI to replace human-to-human relationships, because interpersonal relationships are the foundation for learning, growth, and obtaining happiness. He also discussed the development trade-offs of the iPhone Duo, noting that Apple determined the unfolding ratio starting from an iPad-like large-screen experience, with the hinge and screen reliability being the main engineering challenges. Regarding the direction after taking over as CEO, Ternus said he would not make radical changes to Apple and would continue to keep products, innovation, and users at the center.

OPPO released three phones last night: the Find X10 Pro Max, Find X10, and Find X10 E, all of which will go on sale at 10:00 AM on September 24. Qualcomm simultaneously released two flagship mobile platforms: the sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Super Elite and the sixth-generation Snapdragon 8 Elite, with key upgrades in on-device AI, gaming, and imaging capabilities. The Super Elite's Oryon CPU peaks at 5GHz and includes a new GPU and NPU architecture designed for AI workloads. The iQOO 16 and Red Magic 12 Pro+ have been confirmed as the first devices to feature the Super Elite.

Honor and Alibaba announced at the Yunqi Conference that, based on Qwen Intelligence and MagicOS, they will jointly build five vertical-domain models and solutions for next-generation AI smartphones. The Honor Magic9 series and the Honor Robot Phone, set to be released on September 28, will be the first devices to feature them, with testing showing a comprehensive task accuracy of 91.8%.

From the price reduction of large models to the implementation of on-device AI, and now to smartphone manufacturers intensively launching flagship new products, this round of competition is simultaneously revolving around cost, performance, and user experience. How the market performs going forward remains to be seen.
