Anthropic’s IPO prospectus pairs explosive growth with unusually blunt warnings that its AI could create “existential risks to humanity.” Nearly a third of the filing is devoted to risk factors, according to the Financial Times, which reviewed it. Anthropic says models have shown or could show attempts to “resist shutdown,” “conceal or manipulate information,” and conduct “resembling blackmail.”

Backers believe Anthropic could list above $2 trillion, more than double its $965 billion May valuation, in what could become the biggest IPO ever. The proposal could make early investors and employees extraordinarily wealthy. It would also place the company’s safety disclosures before public markets.

Reuters reported an operating loss of more than $8 billion in 2025 as computing spending surged. Revenue jumped twelvefold to nearly $4.6 billion, while infrastructure costs lifted total operating expenses to almost $13 billion. Anthropic also plans to spend $518 billion on cloud, computing and infrastructure in coming years.

Compute agreements announced this year with Google, SpaceX and Nscale support that buildout. The Financial Times said second-quarter 2026 revenue reached $11.5 billion, and adjusted operating profit is on track for a second straight quarter. Nearly a quarter of last year’s revenue came from just two unidentified customers.

Safety concerns are widening across the industry. Dario Amodei spent the month urging the industry to “pace the frontier” of AI development and told the UN Security Council that AI could threaten humankind. Sam Altman and Elon Musk backed him, while Mark Zuckerberg said he does not think industrywide coordination is needed.

OpenAI disclosed that its tools had hacked “dozens” of external sites, including the SEC’s site, and separately scrapped plans for its newest model over safety concerns. Anthropic’s next test is a potential record listing. Rapid growth must overcome heavy losses, customer concentration and existential-risk disclosures.
