On October 1, Huawei officially announced at the Mate 90 series and all-scenario new product launch event that the standard edition of the Mate 90 smartphone will be equipped with the Kirin 9030 flagship τ chip. Huawei Executive Director, Chair of the Product Investment Review Committee, and Chairman of the Terminal BG, Richard Yu, announced this configuration on site. As the chip model has now been officially confirmed, the core hardware information for the standard edition of the Mate 90 has also become clear.
This disclosure used the Kirin 9020 processor equipped in the Mate 80 as a reference. Huawei stated that, compared with the Kirin 9020, the Kirin 9030 flagship τ delivers a 13% improvement in CPU performance, a 54% improvement in GPU performance, and a 13% improvement in NPU performance. According to the official data, the graphics-processing component shows the most significant increase, while both the CPU and NPU improve by 13%.
The Kirin 9030 flagship τ also supports FFRT software-hardware collaborative scheduling. Huawei said that this capability can increase image-loading speed by 100%. This means that the chip update not only provides comparative data for the CPU, GPU, and NPU, but also presents performance results for the everyday scenario of loading images.
In terms of security capabilities, the Kirin 9030 flagship τ is equipped with the mobile security processor MSP. Huawei stated that the MSP supports post-quantum cryptographic algorithms and can withstand future quantum attacks. This configuration provides the standard edition of the Mate 90 with a clear official explanation of its chip security capabilities.
Based on the currently available information, the upgrade in the standard edition of the Mate 90 covers computing, graphics, artificial intelligence processing, task scheduling, and cryptographic security. Compared with the Kirin 9020, the Kirin 9030 flagship τ delivers a 54% improvement in GPU performance, a 13% improvement in both CPU and NPU performance, and a 100% increase in image-loading speed. At the same time, the MSP's support for post-quantum cryptographic algorithms provides a technical foundation for resisting future quantum attacks.
Following the official announcement at the launch event, the fact that the standard edition of the Mate 90 will be equipped with the Kirin 9030 flagship τ has been confirmed. The information currently disclosed by Huawei mainly focuses on chip performance, software-hardware collaborative scheduling, and mobile security processing capabilities. Actual performance during future use and further product information will remain subject to Huawei's additional disclosures.
