U.S. spot bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) returned to net inflows Thursday, the first trading day of October, taking in $102.7 million after $148.7 million of Wednesday outflows. The reversal opened “Uptober” after the funds’ strongest quarter of 2026. Ether funds instead logged a third straight day of net outflows.

SoSoValue data put combined net assets at $109.3 billion and cumulative net inflows at $57.6 billion. The figures underline bitcoin ETFs’ scale after a volatile start to the month. Thursday’s gain partially offset the prior day’s larger retreat.

The inflow followed $6.34 billion of net subscriptions in the third quarter, including $2.65 billion in September. Bitcoin rose 42.71% during the quarter. At publication, it traded near $85,900, up 2.1% over 24 hours, according to CoinGecko.

Alternative.me’s Crypto Fear & Greed Index slipped to 72 from 74, remaining in “Greed” territory. Sentiment stayed constructive despite the pullback. The reading, alongside rising bitcoin, shows that optimism persisted even as fund flows diverged.

U.S. spot ether ETFs shed $55.4 million Thursday, bringing three-session outflows to about $118 million. Bitcoin’s inflow was more than six times that ether outflow. The contrast makes renewed bitcoin demand the stronger signal.

Solana ETFs also lost around $6 million, extending their outflow streak to two sessions. XRP ETFs bucked the trend with $4 million of inflows. These mixed results show that the renewed buying was concentrated rather than market-wide.

The next test is whether Thursday’s reversal develops into a sustained October trend. Strong quarterly inflows, $109.3 billion in assets and bitcoin’s quarterly gain provide a supportive base, but ether’s three-day slide shows caution remains. Continued ETF flows, the price near $85,900 and the sentiment reading will indicate whether “Uptober” broadens.
