Discovery+ raised subscription prices today, marking its latest increase. Ad-free plans for new subscribers rose from $10 to $12 per month, while ad-based plans went from $6 to $7. New prices apply immediately to new subscribers, but current subscribers get 30 days’ notice starting with bills issued as of November 12.
The hike comes a week after Paramount Skydance bought Warner Bros. Discovery, Discovery+’s parent company, forming Skydance. A Skydance spokesperson told Ars Technica the changes were already planned before Discovery+ knew the merger’s closing date. The spokesperson said they were not made in anticipation of the merger.
Discovery+ mainly offers unscripted content like reality shows and documentaries. It has increased prices three times since launching in 2012. The most recent prior hike, in January 2025, raised ad-based plans from $5 to $6 and ad-free plans from $9 to $10.
The ad-free plan now costs $12 monthly, a 20 percent jump, while the ad-based option rises to $7, up about 16.7 percent. These increases could push some subscribers to reconsider their plans. They may also reflect broader pricing pressures in streaming.
The timing after the merger could raise questions about corporate strategy. However, Skydance denied the merger drove the decision. Discovery+ regularly evaluates prices to ensure they match its content and experience, the spokesperson said.
Existing subscribers will see the new prices after their 30-day notice period and can cancel or switch plans. The company has not disclosed how many subscribers will be affected or the expected revenue impact. Future results will depend on competition, content investment, and subscriber tolerance for higher costs.
