VanEck has moved to withdraw its application for a proposed Lido staked Ether exchange-traded fund. In an SEC filing on Wednesday, VanEck Digital Assets said it does not intend to proceed with the planned distribution of the trust's shares. The asset manager did not explain the decision or say whether it would pursue a replacement product.

The proposed fund was first outlined in an S-1 registration statement filed on Oct. 16, 2025. It was designed to hold Lido staked Ether, known as stETH, and to accrue certain staking rewards through ownership of the token. The product would have given investors exposure to the liquid staking token.

VanEck Digital Assets submitted the filing, but it offered no reason for the withdrawal. It also did not indicate whether the company might refile or launch a similar product. Cointelegraph reached out to VanEck Digital Assets for comment.

The retreat matters because staking-linked crypto funds have attracted growing interest from issuers and investors. A fund tied to stETH would have tracked Ether price exposure and staking rewards. That combination can be complex for regulators and custodians.

The decision leaves the proposed Lido staked Ether ETF without a clear path to market. VanEck has been active in crypto-related exchange-traded products, making the halt notable. The filing did not disclose regulatory concerns or business reasons behind the move.

For now, the Lido staked Ether ETF will not proceed as planned. VanEck has not announced a replacement product or a new timeline. The company's broader crypto ETF ambitions remain unclear.
