HEX founder Richard Schueler, known as Richard Heart, was detained in an Istanbul raid on October 14. Police seized $7.15 million in cash, firearms, nine luxury vehicles, and 28 watches. HEX’s market cap fell from $561 million to $315 million, erasing $246 million.

Turkish authorities acted on an Interpol Red Notice issued two years ago after Finnish officials sought his arrest over tax fraud and assault allegations. A Finnish National Bureau of Investigations spokesperson declined to comment. Turkish media linked Schueler to a $1 billion unregistered securities offering in the US, though a judge dismissed that case in February 2025. Supporters say authorities have not confirmed formal charges.

Images circulating in Turkish media appeared to show a surprised Heart with his lower body blurred, sparking social media mockery. Hex critic Eric Wall said he initially thought the image was AI-generated but now believes it is real. Cointelegraph could only verify the image was circulating, not that it was unaltered.

In separate news, Ledger unveiled Atom, an $849 hardware wallet with stronger tamper protections. The device arrives after malicious implants were found in wallets sold through an Asian reseller, where over $90 million was stolen. Expected in summer 2027, Atom separates Android apps from wallet operations and supports post-quantum cryptography.

A public feud erupted between former Mt. Gox CEO Mark Karpeles and Ledger CEO Pascal Gauthier over the reseller supply-chain failures. Karpeles claimed Ledger knew about spyware as far back as December 2025 but failed to secure its supply chains. Gauthier replied that Karpeles was “no white knight,” referencing the Mt. Gox hack.

Starknet plunged almost 50% as it voted to become a post-quantum Layer 1. Google’s Willow quantum processor demonstrated “magic state cultivation,” reducing errors 40-fold with 99.99% accuracy. Bitwise said all signs point to Crypto Spring. The developments highlight mounting security, quantum, and regulatory risks across crypto.
