US spot Ether exchange-traded funds have surpassed $1 billion in withdrawals in October, reaching $1.08 billion in net outflows, the largest monthly outflow of 2026, according to SoSoValue data. The funds added $26 million on Tuesday but could not offset the broader cash drain. The month’s withdrawals have already erased September’s $832 million in net inflows, highlighting a sharp reversal in investor demand.

With eight trading sessions still remaining, October has recorded the biggest monthly net outflow since November 2025. Year-to-date net inflows for Ether ETFs now stand at approximately $485 million. The outflow trend coincided with Ether’s 9.7% price decline in October, from $2,700 to $2,438 at publication.

Ether has fallen nearly 18% throughout 2026, according to CoinGecko. The price drop and ETF withdrawals together reflect cooling appetite for the second-largest cryptocurrency. The $1.08 billion exit is especially notable because it exceeds the year’s remaining net inflows, underscoring how quickly sentiment has shifted.

Bitcoin ETFs present a mixed picture. They recorded $23 million in net inflows on Tuesday, adding to $527 million on Monday. However, US spot Bitcoin ETFs have still seen about $67 million in net outflows in October, leaving year-to-date net inflows at roughly $809 million. Bitcoin traded at $82,954 at publication, down 2.2% since Oct. 1 and 5.3% year-to-date.

The Ether ETF outflows matter because they signal reduced institutional and retail demand for crypto exposure through regulated products. The withdrawals also amplify price pressure, as ETF redemptions can require fund managers to sell underlying assets. This dynamic can create a feedback loop during periods of market weakness.

Market participants will watch the remaining October sessions to see whether Ether ETFs set a deeper outflow record. Bitcoin ETF inflows slowed after Monday’s spike, suggesting caution across crypto markets. With Ether down nearly 18% in 2026 and Bitcoin down 5.3%, the outlook depends on whether investors view current prices as attractive entry points or signs of further weakness.
