Qubic, a layer-1 blockchain, restarted its network and launched a recovery process after a wallet seed vulnerability enabled an attacker to drain $1.4 million in QU tokens from 1,404 accounts. The project confirmed the restart in its latest update, marking a step toward restoring operations. The incident forced the network to halt on Sunday to prevent further movement of stolen funds.

The blockchain explorer shows Qubic resumed processing ticks at 8:00 pm on Oct. 19. The network advanced beyond tick 85,371,949, the point where it was stopped during the weekend. Validators, known as Computors, approved the recovery plan before the restart.

Qubic also opened a claims platform for affected wallet holders. Users can check their address and submit a claim through the reclaim platform. The deadline for submissions is May 1, 2027, giving victims nearly two years to seek compensation.

The flaw affected seeds from Qubic’s web wallet on some Apple devices and browsers. An insecure random-number generator produced predictable seeds exploited by the attacker. Qubic fixed the flaw in web wallet version 4.26.4, released Oct. 19.

On Tuesday, the team warned that wallets created before version 4.26.4 should be treated as insecure, even if untouched. Users should update, create a new wallet, and move funds immediately. Never use the old wallet again, the team advised.

The recovery plan and claims process aim to rebuild trust after the hack, which exposed risks in wallet seed generation. Affected users now have a clear path to reclaim lost assets. The incident highlights the importance of secure randomness.

With claims open until May 1, 2027, Qubic’s focus will shift to monitoring recovery and ensuring users migrate to secure wallets. The project’s response—halting the chain, fixing the flaw, and compensating victims—will be closely watched by the blockchain community. The outcome may influence future incident responses.
