Apple has announced refreshes for the iMac and the entry-level, 14-inch MacBook Pro. Both machines will use the M6 chip. That processor was introduced in the Mac mini several weeks ago.
The M6 is split into two variants for the iMac. The two-port option has a 10-core CPU and a 10-core GPU. It maxes out at 24 GB of RAM and 1TB of storage. The four-port option provides 12 cores for both CPU and GPU. It supports up to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage.
The MacBook Pro offers only one M6 option. That chip has a 12-core CPU and a 12-core GPU. It caps out at 32GB of RAM. Storage can go up to 4TB.
The iMac update is more substantial. Its previous refresh introduced the M4 chip. Apple skipped the M5 and went straight to the M6. According to Appleās Mac mini announcement, the M6 delivers up to 40 percent faster CPU performance, up to double graphics performance, and nearly five times faster on-device AI.
Those figures largely match testing of the M6 Mac mini last month. Users of the new iMac should expect similar numbers. The entry-level MacBook Pro also gains the same 12-core M6 chip.
The M6 now appears in the Mac mini, iMac, and entry-level MacBook Pro. This expands Appleās latest silicon across more of its computer lineup. The iMacās jump from M4 to M6 marks a notable generational leap.
The M6 rollout continues across Appleās product families. The Mac mini introduced the chip, and the iMac and MacBook Pro now follow. Apple has highlighted the M6ās performance gains over the M4.
