Apple will launch Apple Intelligence in China with iOS 27.3, the company announced on its Chinese newsroom website, according to MacRumors. An iOS 27.3 beta will introduce the first features on November 4, with a full release scheduled for December. The move brings Apple’s AI tools to one of its most important markets.

Apple Intelligence was approved in China in July, signaling that the launch was near. In August, Reuters reported that Apple had trained its own large language model specifically for China. The rollout has required local adjustments and partnerships.

The initial beta will not include the new Siri AI. It will instead offer earlier features: notification summaries, real-time translation, rewriting and proofreading tools, visual intelligence, and object removal from photos. These tools represent a phased introduction rather than a complete suite.

Apple also said it worked with Alibaba to add support for its Qwen chatbot in some experiences. The arrangement resembles iOS’s integration with OpenAI’s ChatGPT, which launched in 2024. The partnership gives Chinese users access to a locally approved chatbot within Apple’s ecosystem.

The launch matters because China is a crucial market for Apple and AI features are a growing competitive differentiator. Starting with established tools and a local chatbot partner lets Apple comply with Chinese regulations while testing demand. The absence of the new Siri AI underscores the limits of this first release.

The announcement follows months of preparation, including regulatory approval and China-specific LLM training. The November 4 beta will give developers and some users an early look before the December release. If the beta proceeds smoothly, iOS 27.3 should reach Chinese users with a core set of features. More advanced capabilities, including the new Siri AI, are not part of this launch and may arrive later.
