Apple released the watchOS 27.3 developer beta earlier today, adding Live Rewind and Siri Recap to Apple Watch Series 12 and Ultra 4. These Audio Intelligence features join two others already available. The Verge shared initial impressions, noting they require opt-in and compatible hardware. The features are off by default. Users must enable them via the iPhone Watch app, have iOS 27.3 beta, and calibrate the microphone for Live Rewind. Apple provides clear privacy messaging and support documentation. Live Rewind shows a transcript of the last 15 seconds after a double-press of the crown. Siri Recap summarizes conversations. Users can set Siri Recap for specific times and places, like weekdays 1–4 PM at the office. An audible chime signals use. Privacy is central. The Verge says ethical use requires a heads-up to frequent conversation partners. The features require active choice and latest hardware, so they are not always-on. In a quiet home office, Live Rewind worked as described, capturing attempts to get a cat to roll over, though it misheard some words. The first Siri Recap of an editorial meeting identified topics and stripped sensitive information. However, the summary was less useful for work because of the removed details. The Verge hesitated to fully assess Siri Recap due to limited lengthy conversations. Questions remain about self-talk, gossip filtering, and how it changes interactions. These will test the feature and Apple’s privacy claims. Compared with the Amazon Bee Frontier, Apple’s approach is more deliberate. The Verge plans weeks of testing in louder environments. Developer beta features may change before public release.
