Amazon named Uber Eats its official restaurant delivery partner for U.S. Prime members on Thursday, ending its existing Grubhub agreement. Prime members can now order food through Amazon.com and the Amazon Shopping app. No Uber account is required.
Orders of more than $25 carry no delivery fee, the companies said. Prime members can also skip creating an Uber account entirely. To launch the tie-up, Amazon and Uber are offering $20 off the first two qualifying orders during the first two weeks.
The change ends a relationship that began in 2022, when Amazon first offered Prime members a free Grubhub+ subscription. Two years later the companies expanded the commercial agreement and made that membership an ongoing Prime benefit. Amazon also raised its equity stake in Grubhub to as much as 18%.
An Amazon spokesperson said the company continuously evaluates third-party offers and saw a chance to deliver a better restaurant delivery experience. Grubhub confirmed the agreement's end as well. Prime members who already activated Grubhub+ can keep using that membership through December 31, 2027.
The deal deepens an already broad relationship between the two companies. Amazon and Uber hold agreements spanning cloud computing, Zoox robotaxis and the integration of Uber Eats into Amazon's AI-powered Alexa+ assistant. For Amazon, it adds another perk to justify the annual Prime fee.
Grubhub's ownership has shifted in recent years. Just Eat Takeaway.com, its former parent, announced plans to sell the company to Wonder. Amazon elected in December 2024 to cash out on its outstanding exercisable warrants, though the partnership persisted until now.
The shift leaves Prime members with a single, integrated restaurant delivery option on Amazon. Rivals such as DoorDash still compete for the same diners. The two-week discount window suggests the companies will gauge demand before further promotions.
