Amazon and TATA Motors have announced a deal to deploy 3,000 electric trucks in India. TATA Motors announced the agreement. It is the largest electric truck deployment in the country. The move extends Amazon’s Indian fleet electrification beyond last-mile logistics.
Amazon already operates over 15,000 electric vehicles across 500-plus cities in India. The company aims for net-zero carbon emissions by 2040. The new trucks will transport goods between warehouse facilities across cities and national freight corridors.
The vehicles are based on the Tata Ultra E.7, a 7.5-tonne straight truck. It has a 240 kW electric motor and a 96 kWh LFP battery. The maker claims up to 130 km of loaded range with DC fast-charging.
The 3,000-truck order significantly boosts India’s electric truck fleet. It advances wide-scale electrification of freight transportation. The government’s PM E-DRIVE program supports this transition. The deployment addresses one of the toughest challenges in decarbonizing transportation.
Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, Union Minister for Heavy Industries and Steel, said the collaboration shows sustained demand met by India-made electric trucks. He said India is accelerating toward electric mobility and Viksit Bharat 2047. The government will continue supporting the transition.
Abhinav Singh, Amazon’s VP of Operations for APAC, Middle East, Africa and Turkey, called the collaboration an important step. He said Amazon aims to scale electric trucking from intracity operations to major freight corridors. Amazon is also supporting infrastructure for carrier partners and drivers.
The deal signals growing momentum for green logistics in India. It combines Amazon’s logistics demand with TATA’s domestic manufacturing. More such efforts are expected to power India’s electric mobility transition.
