According to Lingang Group, on November 7, the Lingang Exhibition Area of the 9th China International Import Expo hosted the global premiere in the field of physical intelligence. Hitch Open, a global open-source platform for physical intelligence from Silicon Valley, California, USA, whose academic foundation originates from the University of California, Berkeley, was officially released as open source to the world. At the launch event, an AI autonomous decision-making robot completed a table tennis rally challenge. A team led by Professor Gao Yue of Shanghai Jiao Tong University–Shanghai Chuangzhi Institute, together with the Hitch Open platform, jointly set a new result of 142 shots, breaking the world record for this event.

Hitch Open is positioned as a physical intelligence competition platform oriented toward real physical environments. The platform hopes to use extreme competitions in real environments to drive artificial intelligence to complete perception, decision-making, and action in a complex physical world. Its goals cover the development of autonomous driving, embodied intelligence, and robotics, emphasizing the testing of system capabilities in open environments.

Table tennis rallying is regarded as an “extreme testing ground” for physical intelligence. Table tennis balls travel fast and have complex spin variations, leaving robots a reaction window of only hundreds of milliseconds. The robot must complete real-time assessment within the “perception–decision–action” closed loop, placing simultaneous demands on perception accuracy, decision-making speed, and motion control.

The on-site 142-shot table tennis rally by the AI autonomous decision-making robot is precisely a concentrated manifestation of these capabilities. Each additional rally means that the robot maintains stable judgment and action execution in continuous confrontation. The result was jointly achieved by Professor Gao Yue’s team and the Hitch Open platform, and it broke the world record for this event.

As a global open-source platform, Hitch Open was released on the open stage of the CIIE, sending a signal of collaborative innovation in the field of physical intelligence. Driven by real extreme competitions, the platform is expected to provide reusable validation scenarios for autonomous driving, embodied intelligence, and robotics. The open-source release will also promote cooperation among global developers around intelligence in the physical world.

From an industry perspective, physical intelligence is moving from the laboratory into complex real-world environments. Hitch Open places perception, decision-making, and action capabilities into public challenges through a competition platform, providing comparable testing benchmarks for technological iteration. As the platform becomes open source and competitions advance, how robots complete real-time judgment within a hundred-millisecond-level window will become an important observation point for the development of embodied intelligence.
