A new desktop application called EyesRhythm aims to help computer users maintain healthier blinking habits during long screen sessions. The tool uses a webcam to score blink frequency and regularity, presenting both through an Ocular Rhythm Index ranging from 0 to 100. It is available as version 1.6.0 for macOS and Windows, with downloads sized at 93 MB and 85 MB.
The project targets an overlooked problem: focused computer use often cuts blink rate in half. Sparse or uneven blinking can contribute to digital eye strain, dryness, fatigue, and blurred vision. Because symptoms develop gradually, users may not notice until their eyes feel uncomfortable.
EyesRhythm combines rate, how often a person blinks, and regularity, how evenly those blinks are spaced, into its ORI score. A live graph displays the previous five minutes of blink rhythm, while the app counts only when the user is at the screen. It includes a two-minute guided Practice session intended to make healthier blinking easier to repeat.
A separate feature called Poise tracks head direction in 30-degree slices. Its dial turns green for directions the user looked toward and red for skipped directions, encouraging neck and shoulder movement before returning to work. The companion offers a visual orange pulse by default, plus sound alerts and a beep for each counted blink.
Privacy is central to the design. All camera frames are processed locally, discarded after reading, and never uploaded or stored as video. The app requires no account, license key, cloud service, or analytics; preferences and daily totals remain in a local folder.
EyesRhythm is positioned as a wellness companion rather than a medical device. The developers recommend consulting an eye-care professional for lasting discomfort. By turning blink awareness into a small desktop habit, the tool seeks to help users reduce avoidable screen-related eye strain.
