Google Cloud introduced the Gemini Agent on Thursday, a universal AI for work that the company says can accept a goal, operate autonomously, and return with a finished result.
The release marks a notable departure from Google's tightly integrated cloud stack, since running Spanner outside Google's own infrastructure meant replacing the two components it depended on most: Colossus, the distributed file system, and TrueTime, the clock service built on atomic clocks and GPS.
