US spot Bitcoin exchange-traded funds (ETFs) recorded their fourth consecutive session of net outflows on July 28, with investors withdrawing approximately $49.8 million as Bitcoin slipped to $63,000. The extended outflow streak follows a seven-day inflow run that brought in nearly $1 billion, highlighting renewed volatility after Bitcoin failed to sustain prices above the $65,000 mark. According to data from SoSoValue, the four-day outflow total reached about $526 million, with the largest single-day withdrawals occurring on July 24 and July 23 at around $240 million and $225 million, respectively.

The outflows mark a sharp reversal from the previous week's bullish momentum, when spot Bitcoin ETFs attracted significant capital amid optimism over potential regulatory clarity and institutional adoption. Despite the recent selling pressure, cumulative net inflows since the ETFs' launch remain robust at $51.3 billion, while total net assets stood at $77.2 billion as of July 28. Analysts attribute the shift to Bitcoin's inability to hold above key resistance levels, which triggered profit-taking and a cautious market sentiment.

Bitcoin briefly dipped to $63,100 on July 28, its lowest level since July 17, before recovering slightly. At the time of publication, the cryptocurrency was trading at $64,371, reflecting a 2.7% gain over the past seven days, according to CoinGecko data. The price action suggests lingering uncertainty, with traders closely watching support levels around $63,000 and resistance at $65,000.

The implications of the outflow streak extend beyond immediate price movements, as sustained withdrawals could signal waning institutional appetite for Bitcoin exposure through regulated vehicles. However, the relatively modest size of the outflows compared with cumulative inflows indicates that long-term holders remain largely unfazed. The market now awaits clear catalysts, such as potential ETF approvals in other jurisdictions or macroeconomic shifts, to reignite demand.

CryptoQuant community analyst Darkfost commented that Bitcoin’s return to a bullish trend would require renewed demand and improving market conditions. He noted that Bitcoin spot volumes on major exchanges have fallen sharply from late 2024 levels, with Binance recording only about $35 billion in July spot volume compared with $246 billion in November 2024. This volume decline underscores reduced retail and institutional participation in recent months.

Looking ahead, market participants are monitoring incoming U.S. inflation data and Federal Reserve policy signals, which could influence risk appetite for cryptocurrencies. While the outflow streak may persist in the near term, the underlying fundamentals of Bitcoin ETFs—such as high cumulative net inflows and growing mainstream adoption—suggest a resilient investor base. A sustained move above $65,000 could rekindle inflows, but failure to do so may lead to further consolidation or mild corrections.
