On September 7, Huawei officially released the Mate XT 2 Ultimate Design tri-fold smartphone. The new device starts at 19,999 yuan and debuts the Kirin 9050 Pro chip. It is also the first foldable phone to achieve hardware-level privacy protection. As the new flagship of the Mate XT series, the device adopts a wing-spreading tri-fold form. Huawei continues to iterate in the foldable screen field, and this time it has made breakthroughs in thickness, protection, and performance. The new phone uses an ultra-reliable tri-fold Xuanwu architecture. The new phone adopts a G-shaped folding design, with a folded thickness of only 12.3 mm and an unfolded thickness of 3.5 mm. The inner screen is a 10.2-inch 3K ultra-clear display, and the outer screen is 6.5 inches with a peak brightness of 6,500 nits. The body comes in three colors: Mystic Black, Bright White, and Brocade Purple, and incorporates the gold-woven cloud brocade craftsmanship. The Kirin 9050 Pro is called by Huawei the strongest mobile chip in history. Its performance is 42% higher than the Mate XTs, with CPU single-core performance up 24% and multi-core up 52%. The GPU supports 50 million-ray ray tracing, and rendering performance is improved by 142%. In terms of communication, the Balong baseband supports an integrated space-ground architecture, with satellite paging success rate increased by 42% and satellite connection speed increased by 40%. For terrestrial networks, it supports 5A speeds, and the freeze rate during high-speed rail video conferences is reduced by 25%. The cooling system reduces gaming temperature rise by 2.5°C. Privacy protection is an important highlight. The Spirit Shield privacy screen uses an independent dual-pixel design. When enabled, the side view shows black, while the front view is unaffected. Yu Chengdong demonstrated the physical blocking of the dual-screen standing up on site. In addition, the new phone debuts ECG analysis, which has obtained a Class II medical device registration certificate. The imaging system features a rear quad camera setup. It includes an 18EV ultra-high dynamic main camera, a 50MP periscope telephoto lens, a 40MP ultra-wide-angle lens, and a third-generation Red Maple true-color camera. The main camera supports a variable aperture from F1.49 to F4.0, the telephoto lens supports 3.5x optical zoom, and color reproduction is improved by 95%. In terms of system, the new phone debuts HarmonyOS 7. Adapted for the tri-fold form, it supports three apps on one screen and a PC app zone. Paired with the M-Pen 3 Mini stylus, it enables efficient office work. Prices range from 19,999 yuan to 24,999 yuan, with a 29,999 yuan stylus bundle also available. The device is expected to drive the development of the tri-fold smartphone market.
