Regulatory certification documents have revealed the exact battery capacities of Apple's iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max. The documents show that the iPhone 18 Pro has a rated capacity of 3988 mAh and a rated energy of approximately 15.52 Wh, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max is equipped with a 5080 mAh battery and a rated energy of approximately 19.78 Wh. This marks the first time an Apple phone has broken through the 5000 mAh threshold in its product line.

Apple has never directly listed mAh values in its public presentations or official specification pages, instead using metrics such as video playback time. As a result, official archived documents from regulatory databases and environmental certification bodies have become an important channel for the outside world to learn the exact parameters. This time, the documents have fully disclosed the battery hardware details of the two Pro flagship models for the first time.

Compared with the previous generation, the iPhone 18 Pro's battery capacity has increased by about 11% over the iPhone 17 Pro's approximately 3582 mAh. The iPhone 18 Pro Max, meanwhile, has broken Apple's smartphone battery capacity record, with an increase of about 8.4% over the previous model's approximately 4685 mAh. This also marks the first time Apple's phone battery capacity has officially crossed the 5000 mAh mark.

In terms of internal structure, teardown and certification information show that Apple has adopted a high-energy-density steel-shell/aluminum metal-shell cell packaging technology for the iPhone 18 Pro series. This metal shell provides better physical and mechanical torsional rigidity, complies with increasingly strict removable-repair regulations, and greatly improves heat conduction efficiency during sustained high-power fast charging and high-load computing. The heat from the device body can be dissipated more evenly through graphite thermal pads and the internal cooling architecture, creating space for larger electrode active materials.

This physical capacity expansion directly translates into a leap in battery life. Combined with the energy-efficiency optimizations of the A20 Pro chip built on TSMC's latest process, as well as the deep sleep algorithms in iOS 27 designed for the ProMotion display and on-device neural computing, Apple officially claims that both models have achieved a qualitative breakthrough in overall battery life. Among them, the iPhone 18 Pro delivers up to 30 hours of offline video playback on a single charge, while the iPhone 18 Pro Max reaches 35 hours, setting a new benchmark for high-end smartphone battery life.

Supply chain analysts point out that generative AI is now deeply embedded in the daily operation of the system, and on-device inference of large models as well as complex camera computations place demanding requirements on a phone battery's instantaneous power and sustained power delivery. By significantly increasing the physical battery capacity and breaking through 5000 mAh, Apple has not only alleviated consumers' anxiety about rapid battery drain from frequent use of on-device AI, but also provided a solid hardware foundation for all-day battery life on both Pro flagships under full performance, high screen brightness, and external expansion scenarios.
