According to a report by Jiemian News citing sources from the Foxconn supply chain, Apple's newly released foldable smartphone, the iPhone Duo, is facing yield challenges during the initial mass production phase, with the overall assembly yield being only slightly above 60%. This news has sparked market attention regarding the production status of Apple's first foldable product.

The report indicates that the production issues with the iPhone Duo are mainly concentrated in the device's structure and tolerance assembly. Supply chain sources stated that it may take 6 to 12 months for the product to mature to a stable quality level. Meanwhile, the production side is awaiting whether Apple will adjust some of its quality standards. It is worth noting that the supplier, Samsung Display, had also previously encountered issues with OLED panel yield and delivery, and the hinge solution had undergone specification adjustments.

According to Apple's official schedule, the iPhone Duo was officially announced on September 10 this year, with pre-orders set to begin on October 16 and the official sale date on October 23. Currently, the supply chain has set production targets for 2026 between 6 million and 8 million units. The yield issues may have a certain impact on achieving this production goal.

A low yield means increased production costs and potential delays in delivery schedules. For Apple, how to quickly improve production stability while ensuring product innovation will become a key issue in supply chain management. Market analysis suggests that as a high-end product, the foldable smartphone's price will inevitably be high. If yield issues persist, they could affect the product's market supply and consumer experience.

From an industry perspective, the foldable smartphone market is in a rapid development phase, with multiple manufacturers vying for this emerging niche market. As a latecomer, Apple's production performance with the iPhone Duo will directly impact its market competitiveness in the foldable segment. While yield issues are common during the initial mass production of new products, the speed of resolution will determine the product's market performance.

Looking ahead, Apple needs to collaborate closely with its supply chain partners to quickly resolve the technical challenges on the production side. With the accumulation of production experience and process optimization, yields are expected to gradually improve. This process not only tests Apple's supply chain management capabilities but also reflects the challenges still faced by foldable technology in large-scale commercialization.
