DogeOS opened a public test network Wednesday for Ethereum-compatible financial applications built with test DOGE. Developers can create lending services, trading platforms and a cryptocurrency-backed stablecoin, using test DOGE for fees. The project has not set a mainnet launch date.

Dogecoin has a market value of about $13 billion, but its base network mainly transfers DOGE between wallets and cannot natively run lending or exchanges. DogeOS operates those services separately and would let users bridge DOGE into the system. That approach requires mathematical proofs that off-chain computations followed network rules.

The initial testnet relies on selected operators rather than Dogecoin miners. A permissioned sequencer orders transactions, validators approve updates, and a trusted execution environment verifies proofs in protected hardware, while a Security Council oversees the system. DogeOS’s proposed OP_CHECKZKP upgrade would eventually let Dogecoin miners verify the application proofs.

OP_CHECKZKP was published in July 2025, while a separate December implementation remains a draft with a placeholder proof checker. Further development is required before miners can secure the applications. If successful, DogeOS could give holders reasons to use DOGE through lending, borrowing and trading rather than only speculate.

Bridging DOGE into a separate system introduces trust and security demands before those services reach mainnet. DogeOS founder Jordan Jefferson, whose team built the MyDoge wallet, told CoinDesk that owning DOGE needs a stronger rationale beyond easy purchases. Three U.S. dogecoin ETFs collected about $12 million over nearly 10 months.

The ETFs recorded no net flows on 166 of 199 trading days, and Bitwise’s fund held under $700,000 when it announced its closure. Jefferson said DOGE’s liquidity, community and cultural reach remain largely untapped, although earlier memecoin application networks have declined. With no launch schedule and miner verification unfinished, DogeOS must prove both technical security and sustained demand.
