On October 12, the China Passenger Car Association (CPCA) released the national passenger car market analysis report for September 2026. The report showed that passenger car exports in September (including complete vehicles and CKD) were 917,000 units, up 73.7% year-on-year and up 3.2% month-on-month. Among them, new energy passenger vehicle exports reached 558,000 units, up 163.5% year-on-year and up 7.7% month-on-month.

The report pointed out that in September, passenger car exports accounted for 36% of passenger car manufacturers' sales, compared with 38% last month and 19% in the same period of 2025. New energy passenger vehicle exports accounted for 60.8% of passenger car exports, up 21 percentage points from the same period last year. The report mentioned that the scale advantage of China's new energy vehicles is emerging, and market demand continues to expand.

In terms of the new energy export structure, battery electric vehicles accounted for 60.5% of new energy exports, compared with 66.2% in the same period last year. A00+A0-segment battery electric vehicles, a core focus, accounted for 57.9% of battery electric vehicle exports, compared with 49% in the same period last year. Narrow-sense plug-in hybrids accounted for 34.2% of new energy exports, compared with 31.4% in the same period last year; range-extenders accounted for 5.3% of new energy exports, compared with 2.4% in the same period last year.

At the brand level, exports of domestic brands reached 812,000 units in September, up 75% year-on-year. Joint venture and luxury brands exported 105,000 units, up 62% year-on-year. The report said that new energy brand products made in China are increasingly going global, and their overseas recognition continues to rise.

The rankings of new energy export companies show that BYD Auto ranked first with 175,877 units. Chery Automobile exported 85,990 units, and Geely Automobile exported 72,893 units, ranking second and third respectively. Tesla China, SAIC Passenger Vehicle, and Changan Automobile exported 30,529, 29,552, and 29,325 units respectively.

Leapmotor exported 27,454 units, SAIC-GM-Wuling exported 16,543 units, Dongfeng Motor exported 10,282 units, and XPeng Motors exported 10,055 units. The ranking covers companies such as BYD, Chery, Geely, Tesla China, SAIC Passenger Vehicle, Changan, Leapmotor, SAIC-GM-Wuling, Dongfeng, and XPeng. The rankings of leading companies reflect that domestic brands occupy a major position in new energy exports, and BYD, Chery, and Geely have relatively obvious scale advantages.

Overall, new energy passenger vehicle exports continued high-speed growth in September, and the share of exports in passenger car manufacturers' sales remained at a relatively high level. With the expansion of scale advantages and market demand, new energy brands made in China are expected to continue expanding into overseas markets. In the new energy export product mix, the increased shares of plug-in hybrids and range-extenders also show that overseas market demand for diversified powertrain products is changing.
