On October 25, Wang Teng, founder of Yixiu Technology, posted a message discussing Apple's iPhone Duo falling below its launch price. He said that after trying it hands-on, he thought the device was refined overall, but compared with Xiaomi and Huawei wide foldables, it had no particularly leading aspects. This evaluation placed Apple's first foldable-screen phone and domestic foldable-screen products within the same discussion framework.
The iPhone Duo went on sale on October 23, with a mainland China starting price of 15,999 yuan. The device uses a book-style inward-folding design; when closed, the outer screen is 5.4 inches, and when unfolded, the inner screen is 7.6 inches. It is equipped with a TSMC 2nm-process A20 Pro chip and claims sustained performance up to 35% higher than the iPhone 17 Pro.
Based on feedback from netizens across major platforms, the iPhone Duo has fallen below its launch price in some areas of China. Pinduoduo has listed the device in its Ten Billion Subsidy channel, visible only in some regions. Compared with the launch price, it is about 200 to 300 yuan cheaper after subsidies.
Wang Teng also said that, relying on excellent engineer teams and strong industrial-chain resources, Chinese technology teams can in most fields make products that are no inferior to those of overseas peers, or even better. This is true for phones, and it will also be true for sleep-technology products. This statement expanded the discussion from a single product to industrial-chain capabilities.
The below-launch-price and subsidy information shows that the iPhone Duo's pricing system has loosened in the early period after launch. As Apple's first foldable-screen phone, its starting price of 15,999 yuan sits in the high-end range. Channel prices in some regions are lower than the official price, which may affect consumers' expectations of the first-launch premium.
Wang Teng's evaluation shifted the focus to the competitiveness of domestic foldable screens. Xiaomi and Huawei wide-foldable products were brought into comparison with the iPhone Duo. With more foldable-screen choices in the Chinese market, competition among manufacturers in form factor, performance, and price is attracting more attention.
For Apple, the iPhone Duo's subsequent price trend and sales performance still need to be observed. For domestic manufacturers, competition in high-end foldables will continue to revolve around product experience. Industrial-chain capabilities are becoming an important foundation for competition in fields such as phones and sleep technology.
